“Kyokui No En”

“Kyokui No En”
(Ancient Japanese: Stream Banquet with Poetry)
Monotype on Arches etching paper
Plate size: 12 x 16”

In Japanese, the word kyokusui means meandering stream garden. Related to this expression is kyokui no en, which means stream banquet. In ancient times, during these garden parties, guests would be challenged to invent a poem before cups of sake that had been released upstream would gracefully float by.
